Large and beautiful hand-colored engraved map of time, on three sheets, joined.

The chart derives from that of Frederic Strass (a common source for these so-called "time maps"). The initial peoples on the chart are Italians, Greeks, the people of Asia Minor, Assyrians, Syrians, Phoenicians, Jews, Egyptians, and Chinese. Another "stream" is given over to the discoveries and progress of civilization.

The hand-coloring is original publisher's color.

Maker attribution is based on two other charts that we have had by Hocquart; all three came in the same collection, are engraved and hand-colored in the same manner, on the same paper. Édouard Hocquart (1789-1870?) was a French mapmaker and engraver active in the first half of the 19th century. He was responsible for several other attractive time maps.

Seemingly not in BNF.
